5th May. Day 3. Leicester Ring. Near Yelvertoft to bottom of Foxton Locks.

Foxton Staircase locks.
View from the bottom of a lock.

Which makes Daisy anxious.

But dogs on the bridge brave.

Boat looks super long with super wide angle lens.

Lots of spectators.

Set out about 8.40. Canal rather overgrown at sides. This was fine until meeting a boat in the other direction when we usually ran aground. We thought we might stop near bridge 45 and walk Daisy into North Kilworth - except sensible bank moorings all occupied, some by permanent or at least long term residents. So we carried on through Husbands Bosworth tunnel (opened 1815. 1166 yards long) and moored up on gabians. Not a great idea and the boat was a couple of feet from the bank. This meant the plank was needed for Daisy. She didn't like crossing it. So we had lunch between 12.50 and 13.30 and set off again.

We reached the top of Foxton locks and started to go down them as soon as Rachel had found someone to say it was ok (a volunteer- the lock keeper seemed to have disappeared). Foxton locks are 2 lots of 5 staircase locks dropping 75 foot. It being a Bank Holiday Monday it appeared most of Leicestershire had come to watch the boats - and we were the only one going down. The boat and I got photographed and videoed the whole way down. Rachel had an army of small helpers who followed her down helping open and close the gates. Due to small children making Daisy anxious we put her on the boat- where she looked anxious but was at least safe. She tried to escape in between the 2 flights.

We started entered the top lock at 15.30. We were moored up heading towards Leicester at the bottom  at 16.15.

14.5 miles and 10 locks = 24.5 lock miles.
